Coroplast
Used for low-cost, short term signing, indoor and outdoor use. Coroplast is available in white and colors also different thicknesses. Wire stakes are also available to complete smaller signs. Common uses are political or real estate signs.
Expanded Foam PVC
Common Brand names: Sintra®, Excel®, Celtec®, Komatex®, Intefoam®
Used for medium cost, signing. Expanded PVC is excellent for high quality direct printing or light-weight alternative to other materials. We stock white sheets with film mask to protect surface and to accommodate the digital printing industry. Sheets are available in different thicknesses and colors (colors for indoor use only). Expanded PVC is very light weight and excellent for many structural applications as well, but surface is soft and will show wear quickly.
Acrylic
Common Brand names: Plexiglas®, Lucite®, Optix®, Chemcast®.
For decorative purposes acrylic is many times an excellent option. Sheets are available in clear, white and colors in different sizes and thicknesses. Edges can be polished, sheets can be bent or thermoformed or fabricated. Common uses are clear a sheet with polished edges on stand-offs, white or colored sheets in lighted signs or smaller signs inside or outside.
Polycarbonate
Common Brand names: Lexan®, Makrolon®, Hyzod®, Tuffak®.
Very strong material, meant for high impact resistance. Polycarbonate is available in clear, tints or white in several thicknesses. Sheets can be fabricated, thermoformed and polished. Common sign uses are white sheets for lighted signs (available in very big sheets), clear sheets for vandal cover on existing signs or direct prints.
High Impact Styrene
Used for low-cost interior signing. Sheets are thin enough to roll, easy to work with and have a wide array of uses. Styrene can be screen-printed, direct printed or used with vinyl.
Metal and Composite Sign Materials
Aluminum
Prepainted aluminum sheets are perfect for long-term low-cost signing. There are many different colors and thicknesses to choose from and several sheet sizes. Common uses are business signs, parking lot signs, fence signs.
Solid Core Composite
Common Brand names: DiBond®, Signabond®, Omegabond®, Polymetal®
An 1/8" sheet of plastic, laminated to 2 thin painted aluminum sheets provides all the benefits of a traditional aluminum surface while adding rigidity for easy of use. Composites are available in many colors and sizes with flat surfaces that are perfect for direct printing.
Fluted Core Composite
Common Brand names: Alumalite®, AlumaCorr®
A fluted plastic sheet laminated to 2 thin painted aluminum sheets provides a very light, rigid surface for exterior signs. Fluted composites are very easy to work with and are available in several colors and 2 thicknesses.
Other Sign Materials
Fome-Cor®
Low cost, lightweight foam sheets with paper surfaces for mounting images for interior displays or posters. Fome-Cor® is available in different sizes, heat-activated sheets or with adhesive.
GatorFoam®
Lightweight rigid sheets used for mounting images, more expensive than Fome-Cor but able to stand upright without a frame.
MDO®
Outdoor Plywood with painted white surfaces, used for medium term outdoor signing in harsh environments. Commonly used for construction site signing.
White-Wood®
Outdoor plywood with vinyl surfaces to extend life of sign and accept vinyl letters or direct print. White-Wood is an engineered product used as an upgrade to traditional MDO sheets at about the same cost.
Acrylic
Common Brand names: Plexiglas®, Lucite®, Optix®, Chemcast®.
For windows, covers or decorative purposes acrylic is many times an excellent option. Sheets are available in clear, white and colors in different sizes and thicknesses.
Polycarbonate
Common Brand names: Lexan®, Makrolon®, Hyzod®, Tuffak®.
Very strong material, meant for high impact resistance. Polycarbonate is available in clear, tints or white in several thicknesses. UV and Abrasion Resistant sheets are perfect for vandal-resistant storefronts or windows on ATV's.
Composite
A sheet of plastic, laminated to 2 thin painted aluminum sheets provides a rigid sheet perfect for kick-plates or bottom panels on storefront windows. Composites are available in 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8" with some options for colors and textures.
Acetal
Common Brand names: Delrin®, Acetron®
Medium Cost, Food safe, FDA compliant material used for structural parts. Acetal is hard and easy to machine to close tolerances, with comfortable operation in low temperature environments and good chemical resistance.
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)
Common Brand names: Sanelite®, Densetic®
Low cost, Food safe, FDA compliant material used for structural parts. HDPE is easy to machine to close tolerances, has excellent chemical resistance. HDPE is often the first material to try for an application because the cost is lower in thin gauges, but this material does not do well as a wear-part or in frozen environments.
UHMW-PE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)
Common Brand names: Tyvar®
Medium/Low cost, Food safe, FDA compliant material used for structural and wear parts. UHMW has excellent chemical resistance, a very low coefficient of friction and operates well in cold environments. Use Virgin Natural in food environments and colored reprocessed UHMW for lumber, oil or other non-food operations.
Nylon
Natural Nylon is a medium cost material used for structural and wear parts. Nylon is hard and tough making it an excellent material for load-bearing parts.
Depending on your application, nylon is also available in many special grades.
Nylon MD
Common Brand name: Nylatron®.
Nylon filled with a dry lubricant, molybdenum disulfide to increase wear properties and lower coefficient of friction. Usually black or gray.
Oil Filled Nylon
Common Brand name: Nyloil®.
Nylon filled with oil to increase wear properties and lower coefficient of friction even beyond that of Nylon MD. Oil Filled Nylon is available in regular or food grades making it appropriate for a wide variety of uses. Usually green or white.
Heat Stabilized Nylon
Common Brand name: MC901. Usually blue.
Better impact strength and thermal stability than most other grades of Nylon.
Custom Cast of tubes, discs or thick blocks available in all grades of nylon.
PTFE
Common Brand name: Teflon®.
Virgin unfilled PTFE is a medium/high cost material. PTFE is a soft, high temperature resistant material that is FDA compliant and has a very low coefficient of friction. Custom blends of PTFE are available in filled grades (graphite, molybdenum disulfide, glass etc) to improve wear, hardness or other desired characteristics.
Custom Cast of tubes, discs or thick block available in PTFE.
